Carlos Prates Calls Out Islam Makhachev's Withdrawal
Carlos Prates has strongly criticized Islam Makhachev following the announcement that he would no longer be fighting at UFC 336. Prates was originally slated to face Makhachev but is now set to fight Michael Morales for the interim welterweight title instead on January 30.
Prates took to social media to express his frustration, stating, "I've been working toward my dream of becoming a champion for 17 years, and now you’ve postponed that." He emphasized his respect for hard work in the sport, comparing his achievements to Morales, who he feels hasn't faced the same level of competition.
Makhachev later responded, pointing out his recent victory over Ian Machado Garry, the only fighter to defeat Prates in the UFC. Makhachev stated, "Shut up and go train. You’re not on my level. See you soon. #maybe".
UFC 336 will highlight the bout between Prates and Morales, while Makhachev's absence has led to the introduction of an interim title, a decision UFC CEO Dana White explained was necessary to keep the division moving despite Makhachev's requests to postpone his return until after Ramadan.
